Reel Abilities Toronto Film Festival — BARRIER FREE, LIVING ART and SHAKE WITH ME Screening

June 2 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

From the Reel Abilities Toronto Film Festival Facebook event:

RAFFTO is excited to show Barrier Free: The Art of Adam Cohoon, Living Art, and Shake with Me!

Thanks to our co-presenting community partner Design Exchange and L’Arche Daybreak and our venue partner, Innis Town Hall at the University of Toronto.

Dir. Fotis Kanteres | English | Canada | 17 mins | Documentary

Adam Cohoon is a photographer, filmmaker, artist and accessibility advocate who lives in downtown Toronto. In this short film, Cohoon offers a unique perspective on being an artist who uses a wheelchair. Catch a glimpse of how he makes his art on the street and at home, and then shows it to the public.

Presented with our community partner Design Exchange.

Dir. David Rochkind | English | United States | 32 mins | Documentary

As she prepares for the opening of the biggest gallery show in her career, Mara Clawson, battles with her Familial Dysautonomia (FD) diagnosis – a rare genetic disease that damages the autonomic nervous system that only affects Jews of ashkenazi descent – and her undetermined life expectancy.

Presented with our community partner Design Exchange.

Dir. Zach Grant | English | United States | 32 mins | Documentary

Debra Magid is an artist and designer who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) in 2012. In the fall of 2016, Debra agreed to let her son, Zack Grant, document the relationship between her art and her condition on film. What started as an exploration of Debra’s growth as an artist in the face of Parkinson’s Disease grew into a larger story of art, health, family and the will to cope. Shake With Me is a look into a frozen, tenuous and unique moment in time where Debra’s health is stable, her art is thriving, and the future is entirely unknown.

Presented with our community partner Design Exchange.
